| 7. Topic - Teamsheet.
Question - I've already submitted my Teamsheet, but just found out one of my players has dropped out. Can I change my
Teamsheet? No. |
| 6. Topic - Teamsheet/Draft Form.
Problem - There are not enough places on the website form to allow me to make all the orders I want. Each form that you use on the website (Teamsheet or Draft Form) contains all the orders that are allowable for that particular round. For example, the Teamsheet allows for one of each type of Buy order. So you can therefore only Buy one Free Agent and one Uncontracted Player. A simple rule is - If there's no space on the form to do what you want, you can't do it. |
| 5. Topic - Website.
Question - How do I navigate around the website? There seem to be a lot of pages with no links. As the website has grown, I've adopted the policy of having fewer links within the website. The more ways there are of getting to a particular page, the more ways there are of getting lost. Most sections of the website are focussed on only one subject and don't need links to other sections. When you get to a page that has no further links, simply use the Back Arrow to return to the previous page. You should never have to "back-up" more than once to get to some sort of menu or index. This page, for example, has no further links, and using the Back Arrow returns you to the Main Menu. |
| 4. Topic - Website.
Question - Can I somehow use the website while I am off-line? Yes you can, and in fact it's a good idea, particularly if you pay for internet time. And it's quite simple. First create a File Folder and call it Sim Football. To do this, click Start, Documents, then select My Documents. (You may already have a shortcut to My Documents on your desktop, so use that if you wish.) Now, from the toolbar click File, New, then select Folder. A new yellow folder (named New Folder, oddly enough) should have appeared. Right-click on the new folder then select Rename. Type in Sim Football then press Enter. Presto, you have your very own Sim Football folder. Now all you have to do is download from the website the pages you want to use off-line. To do this, go to the website on-line. We will use the Main Menu page as an example. From the toolbar click File, then select Save As... The top box in the new window shows which folder to save the file in. To locate the Sim Football folder, click the arrow beside the box. One of the choices you are given is a yellow folder labelled My Documents. Click on this and the contents of this folder should be displayed. Click on the Sim Football folder. The "Save in" box should now show Sim Football and the Save button to the bottom right of the window should be highlighted. Click Save. Done. You will now have a file called index.html in your Sim Footballer folder. It is important that you don't change any of the settings in the 3 boxes at the bottom of the Save Web Page window. If you are downloading a newer version of a page you already have in your Sim Football folder, you will need to Replace the old version when prompted. To download any of the pictures, right-click in the middle of the picture, select Save Picture As... then follow the same procedure. The pictures are not needed to make the website work, but they take up very little space and you could download the lot in 2 minutes. Otherwise, the off-line website will function exactly the same way as the on-line version - PROVIDED you have all the necessary pages in your Sim Football folder. For example, to read a Masterlist you would click on The Home Page Index then the relevant League Logo, then click on the Masterlist. But if you don't have The Home Page Index or the League Home Page in your folder, you can't follow the normal links. To view any page off-line, go to My Documents (either via the My Documents shortcut or Start, Documents, My Documents) then double-click the Sim Football folder. If you want to work as on the website, double-click index.html to open the Main Menu. If you just want to work with an individual page, such as a Masterlist, double-click on the particular file name. Your browser will display the page you selected, and may ask if you want to go on-line, to which you reply No. Any questions on this, just email me. |

3. Topic - Website.
Problem - I know the website has been updated, but I get old information or a "Page
Unavailable" message. There are a few reasons why this may occur, most notably because either your ISP (Internet Service Provider) or my Website Host are having hiccups. Try pressing the F5 key. This means "Refresh" and tells your browser to look for the most recent copy of the page. (You can also use the F5 key to replay any sounds that may be attached to a page). If F5 doesn't work, try holding down the Control (Ctrl) Key and pressing F5. This is a "super" refresh, meant to override any instruction your computer may have in relation to refreshing pages. If neither of those work, try logging-off then logging-on again. If that doesn't work, wait half an hour and try again. If you have persistent problems over a number of hours or days, send me an email with details. |

2. Topic - Display.
Problem - I have to scroll across to the right to read a page on the Sim website. This should not happen. Each page is designed to fit horizontally across the screen. You will need to scroll down on many pages, but should never have to scroll right. To check your display settings, click Start, Settings, Control Panel, then double-click Display. Select the Settings tab. Your display size should be at least 800 x 600 pixels to be compatible with Sim. Then click the Advanced box near the bottom. The Font Size box should show Small Fonts. If it shows something else, change it to Small Fonts, unless you specifically need to display larger than normal writing. Either or both of these solutions should do the trick. You may need to reboot the computer for the change to be effected. |

1. Topic - Printing.
Problem - When I print a page from the website, the last few characters on each line are missing. Some of the web pages, in particular the Masterlist, only just fit horizontally on a sheet of A4 paper. But each page has been designed to be printed on A4, so it is possible. Click on File from the toolbar at the top and select Page Setup. Set both the Left and Right margins to 5mm and try another print. If that doesn't work, reduce either Left or Right to 0mm. It's not a precise thing, with the result depending on your printer and software, but generally if you play around with your margins you should be able to print any Sim page. See the next question for another possible way of solving the problem. |
