| Let's have a look at the Matchsheet you have printed. The match we are using is the Season
2000 League 1 round 3 match between Hounds and Specialists because it has examples of everything we've discussed.
The top part is self-explanatory - the Round No., Season and League are shown, then the names of the two competing clubs. The bottom section shows the break-up of the scores for each team, the venue, the attendance and the gate receipts. Starting from the top left, we see that McCartney of Hounds at BP1 had 6 ki and 0 Ff, scoring no goals. His direct opponent FP1 Lynch of Specialists got 2 Gl but only 4 Hb, so also did not score any goals. Because neither player outscored the other, there were no behinds awarded for this match-up. Across at FB/FF we have a different story. Bickley got 10 Hb but only 3 Mk for 0 goals. Loewe easily achieved his base stat with 9 Mk and kicked 2 Gl to score 2 goals for Specialists. He also scored 2 behinds because he outscored his direct opponent by 2 goals. Continuing across we see that Michael of Hounds at BP2 scored 1 goal while Lappin at FP2 scored the maximum 2 goals. Lappin won the position 2 goals to 1, so he also scored 1 behind. The next interesting contest is CHB/CHF. Akermanis was a late withdrawal for Brisbane so Hounds needed an emergency to contest the position. Williams at E1 played in the corresponding AFL round, so he was able to fill CHB, thus avoiding a fine of 1 goal for Hounds. Whitnall scored the maximum 4 goals for Specialists and so also scored 4 behinds for winning the position 4-0. Rule 6A - Emergency players are allocated to uncontested positions beginning from the full back line, reading through to the full forward line, followers and interchange. So in the case of Akermanis, he was the first player in the Hounds team that required an emergency to fill his position. Williams was selected at E1, he played in the corresponding AFL round, so he filled CHB. In the W1 contest, Braun of Specialists was replaced by E2. This is because they used E1 in their first uncontested position at FB to cover Johnson. Now look down to the I3 contest. Hounds selected Manton who did not play. Having already used E1, we look to E2, Johnstone. He did not play in the corresponding AFL round, so can't be used to fill a position. So we go to E3 and find there was no selection. So Hounds are unable to compete in the I3 position and are fined 1 goal. Manton's opponent Kellaway did not score any goals but because he won the position (0 goals to minus 1) he scored a behind. The emergency players will have one of three indicators shown on the Matchsheet: The position he filled (CHB, W1 etc.) And that's about all there is to the on-field play in Sim Football. Simple eh? Now would be a good time to take a break if you are
ploughing through the rules for the first time. Take a few deep breaths, grab a beer/claret/mineral water and clear your mind
because we are about to explore the murky depths of Sim club finances.
